In Poltava region, law enforcement officers stopped illegal activities of men who traded weapons

Criminal activity of two residents of Poltava region, who illegally manufactured and sold pistols, automatic rifles and cartridges in the territory of Poltava region and neighboring regions, was stopped by criminal investigation officers of Poltava region police, investigators of department No. 2 of Poltava regional police department, jointly with the USBU operatives, under the procedural leadership of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office.

In the course of operational and search activities, law enforcement officers found that two residents of the region on specialized Internet resources ordered various models of firearms and processed them for combat. They were also engaged in the manufacture of cartridges. Gunpowder, sleeves, capsules and bullets were also bought over the Internet.

Artem Rodygin, interim acting chief of police of Poltava region, said:

“The attackers sold modified combat weapons and ammunition from mock-ups to third parties in the territory of Poltava and adjacent regions. On April 6, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, court-sanctioned searches of the places of residence of the defendants were carried out by police investigators. During the searches, two items similar to machine guns were found and seized, one - similar to an automatic machine gun, another - a pistol, a considerable number of parts for the manufacture of weapons, as well as an object similar to an “F1” grenade, about a kilogram of powder and about 800 rounds of various calibers “.

Within the framework of criminal proceedings opened on the basis of the qualifying criteria of Part 1 of Article 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition and explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Measures are currently being taken to notify those involved of suspicion and to choose preventive measures for them.

If proven guilty by the court, offenders face up to 7 years in prison.
