In Odesa region, law enforcement officers detained two officials on suspicion of receiving illegal benefits
Offenders are detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The issue of declaring suspicion to them and choosing a precautionary measure is being resolved.
One of the attackers is the head of the hospital department. For hospitalization and subsequent heart surgery, he demanded 11 thousand dollars from the relatives of the elderly patient. Law enforcement officers detained the man after receiving illegal benefits. The suspect is currently being investigated for involvement in similar crimes.
In addition, law enforcement officers exposed the director of one of the children's sports schools, who forced his subordinates to write applications for dismissal without specifying a date, and then, threatening to implement them, demanded to collect monthly funds from the parents of students “for the needs of the school”. The amounts of fees ranged from eight to sixteen thousand hryvnias. The wrongful actions of the defendant were documented in the procedural order. During an authorized search of his office, the police seized the original applications for the dismissal of subordinates and other material evidence.
The actions of both men are qualified under Part 3 of Article 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an illegal benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years, with confiscation of property.
Implementations on detection and detention of offenders were carried out by investigators of the Investigative Department of the Odessa Police together with SBU operatives and under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
Dear citizens, law enforcement officers emphasize: not only receiving, but also providing or offering illegal benefits is criminally punishable. Do not break the law yourself and do not go after those who demand a bribe from you, but immediately report such cases to the police.
