In Odessa region, internal security agents of the National Police detained a group of men for systematic thefts from an oil refinery
Three residents of the region stole materials containing precious metal worth more than 800 thousand hryvnias from the territory of the Odessa oil refinery. During searches, another half tons of metal-containing products, weapons, and other material evidence were seized from the detainees. Measures to document and detain intruders were carried out in connection with the appeal of ARMA about the need to protect the enterprise from theft.
A group of persons came into the field of view of the employees of the Odessa department of the Department of Internal Security of the National Police. The men were engaged in the theft of materials from the Odessa oil refinery, which is temporarily not working.
Police found that three local residents aged 21 to 24 were involved in the theft. Taking the opportunity, they decided to make money by stealing material values from a strategically important object for the state.
During joint activities, NPU internal security operatives and police investigators of Odessa region detained the conspirators at the time of the crime. The attackers tried to remove 40 kilograms of platinum-containing reforming catalyst from the territory of the plant for further sale. According to this fact, the investigators of the police department No. 2 of the Odessa Regional Police Department entered information into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Part 3 of Art.
185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers conducted sanctioned searches of the defendants. During these activities, tools and special equipment were discovered and recovered, as well as almost half a ton of platinum-containing reforming catalyst. In addition, weapons and special equipment, zip bags with an unknown chemical, money, mobile phones and a vehicle were seized.
According to preliminary estimates, the cost of stolen materials on the “black market” is more than 800 thousand hryvnias. By their unlawful actions, the conspirators caused significant material damage to the state.
The men have now been detained on a procedural basis and placed in a temporary detention facility. Police investigators have already given them suspicions. The investigation takes place under the procedural direction of the regional prosecutor's office. Detained offenders face punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to six years for what they have committed. DVB operatives check the possible involvement of police officers in the illegal activities of a group of persons.
Recall that earlier, the Agency for Search and Asset Management (ARMA) appealed to law enforcement agencies with a request to take additional measures to ensure public safety and protection of the Odessa oil refinery due to numerous thefts of property from the enterprise.
