In Lviv region, police detained an intruder who injured a policeman and two foresters
While documenting the fact of illegal felling of the forest, a 19-year-old resident of Zolochiv district shot at law enforcement officers and forestry employees with a hunting rifle. A policeman with a penetrating gunshot wound to the neck is hospitalized, the foresters are released home after examination by doctors.
On May 21, at about 22.40, the police received a message from foresters that a trap with logs was found in one of the forest areas of the SE “Brodivsky Lisgosp”.
The investigator-operational group and officers of the patrol police response sector of department No. 1 of the Zolochiv district police department went to the scene. In the forest near the village of Leshniv, law enforcement officers discovered a trap with logs of pine trees. Around 00.15, while documenting the fact of illegal logging of the forest, an unknown person from the opposite bank of the river fired shots from an unidentified firearm, wounding a 20-year-old police officer, as well as two foresters — a 34-year-old forester and a 49-year-old forestry engineer, employees Brody Forestry. After that, the attacker fled on a motorcycle.
Operatives of Criminal Investigation Department in Lviv region, investigators of the Lviv Police Investigative Department, dog scientists, forensic experts, forensic laboratory staff worked at the scene of the incident.
Not long ago, law enforcement officers established the identity of the attacker who shot the policeman and the foresters, a 19-year-old local resident. He was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
It was also established that the shots were fired from a hunting rifle.
A policeman with a penetrating gunshot wound to the neck was hospitalized, forest guards refused hospitalization after examination by doctors. At present, there is no threat to the lives of the injured.
Investigative department No. 1 of the Zolochiv district police department opened criminal proceedings under Art. 348 (Invasion of the life of an employee of a law enforcement agency, a member of a public formation for the protection of public order and the state border or a serviceman) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment - imprisonment for a term of nine to fifteen years or life imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
