In Lviv region, police officers exposed a group of persons in the sale of fake certificates with a negative test for COVID-19
The attackers, using electronic computer technology, produced fake certificates indicating a negative result for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. They were exposed by the investigators of the department of investigation of particularly serious crimes of the police of Lviv region together with the operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
As established by law enforcement officers during the pre-trial investigation, five attackers — Lviv residents aged 30 to 52 years — produced and sold fake certificates of laboratory research under the brand of well-known official medical institutions of Ukraine indicating a negative result for the presence of RNA of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
In the framework of open criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 190 (Fraud committed through illegal transactions using electronic computer technology) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, sanctioned searches were carried out at the places of illegal activities and in the vehicles of the defendants in the case. Law enforcement officers discovered and seized computer equipment, forged certificates in Ukrainian and Polish, draft records, seals in Ukrainian and Arabic, as well as other physical evidence.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. For the crimes committed, the offenders are threatened with imprisonment for a term of three to eight years.
