The drunk driver, in order to avoid prosecution, ran away from police officers, inflicted bodily harm on one of them, and then crashed into a fence and a tree.

On January 11, at 23.40 hours, officers of the patrol police response team near the sugar factory in the village of Hrebinki discovered an Opel Vectra car, which was moving with the headlights not working.

The police turned on flashing beacons and went after him. The driver stopped on the side, got out of the car and provided the documents to law enforcement officers for inspection. Police officers found out that the man has been wanted since last year due to non-payment of a fine for an administrative offense. In addition, law enforcement officers offered him on the spot to undergo an examination on the content of alcohol in the blood.

Later, the man, realizing that he could not avoid responsibility for the offenses committed, began to flee. He abruptly got behind the wheel of the car and began to move, ignoring the request of the police to remain in place. Thus, the driver of the car ran into a police officer.

Law enforcement immediately began a pursuit of the fugitive, and later found that his car had pulled down a metal fence and crashed into a tree on the side of the road. The driver was in the car. Subsequently, after the interrogation, police officers found 0.83 ppm of alcohol in the body of the offender.

Police officers drove the car to the site of temporary holding of vehicles, and the fugitive was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Subsequently, the 31-year-old policeman was hospitalized in Belotserkovsky City Hospital No. 2. Doctors diagnosed him with a bruise of the left elbow and shoulder joint.

At present, the investigators of Bila Tserkva under the procedural guidance of the Belotserkov District Prosecutor's Office informed the man of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 345 (Threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for up to five years or imprisonment for the same term.

The investigators appealed to the court with a request to choose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest.
