At the International Interdepartmental Multidisciplinary Center for the Training of Units of the National Guard, a solemn opening of the basic reconnaissance course was held with the participation of representatives of the Joint Operational and Tactical Group of the Armed Forces of Canada in Ukraine (Operation “UNIFIER”).

At the celebrations, the National Guard of Ukraine was represented by the Deputy Head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Department of Personal Staff of the Main Directorate of NGU Colonel Sergey Maltsev, Senior Officer of the Intelligence Department of the Main Directorate of the NGU Lieutenant Colonel Alexey Kargatov and the command of the International Center. On the Canadian side, the event was attended by the commander of Operation “UNIFIER” Lieutenant Colonel Luc-Frederick Gilbert, the liaison officer with the NGU Captain Pierre-Olivier Lehr, the head of the individual training group Major Celine Best and instructors who will be involved in the training of Ukrainian special forces.

“I am very happy to be here today and to see how the next generation of Ukrainian soldiers is actively participating in their professional development. Over the course of seven years, the Canadian Armed Forces have been gradually, step by step, supporting their Ukrainian counterparts in their quest for NATO compatibility. Through such courses, you become professional and improve your combat skills,” Lieutenant Colonel Luke-Frederick Gilbert said during the celebrations.

According to Colonel Serhiy Maltsev, this course is extremely important for the training of special officers of the National Guard of Ukraine.

“Today we are introducing a second pilot training course for scouts in the National Guard. It was created jointly with representatives of the operation “UNIFIER” and will become a qualification for special purpose and intelligence units,” he said.

The basic course of the scout was preceded by the training of instructors-deputy commanders of training departments from the Ukrainian side. The training group included servicemen from reconnaissance units of the military units of the National Guard, who, according to the results of the first pilot course, were the best in their field and scored the highest number of points. During the training and methodological gathering, the Canadian colleagues of the reconnaissance instructors repeated the material, recalled all the educational issues and worked out the interaction. The head of the International Center, Colonel Oleksandr Kryachko, congratulated all the participants on the beginning of the basic course of scouts:

“I sincerely congratulate the participants of the course and our Canadian colleagues on its start. We will provide all the necessary conditions for its implementation. It will be interesting and difficult at the same time. And therefore, I want to wish each participant to acquire professional skills and skills, endurance and strength of spirit.”

It is appropriate to say that this is the first visit by representatives of the command of the Canadian Training Mission 12 Rotation to the National Guard International Centre. During the meeting, the guards introduced Canadian colleagues to its infrastructure, functions and tasks, and discussed the main areas of cooperation.
