In Kyiv region, law enforcement officers detained a serial car hijacker

40-year-old native of Cherkasy region in half a year stole more than 10 cars on the territory of Kyiv region. In April, a man took possession of a car “Hyundai Sonata”, which belonged to a resident of Sofievskaya Borschagovka, and later also stole a Hyundai Tucson car in Vyshgorod.

During the operational-search measures, the police established that the attacker had previously arrived at the crime scene for the purpose of “reconnaissance” and selection of the car. After that, he prepared license plates, ordered special equipment and made keys for specific foreign cars. The attacker left his car in the parking lots and arrived at the crime scenes by public transport.

The man “smuggled” the stolen cars to the Cherkasy region, where he later sold them.

During the authorized search, the man was found grenades RGD-5, F-1, a revolver, sets of car keys, blanks for stealing vehicles, special means for silently smashing windows in cars and other physical evidence confirming the husband's involvement in the crime products.

It was established that the attacker had previously already been brought to criminal responsibility under Part 2,3 of Art. 289 (Illegal possession of a vehicle), Art. 290 (Destruction, forgery or replacement of unit and unit numbers of a vehicle), Part 1 of Art. 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives), Part 2 of Art. 345 (Threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) and Part 1 of Art. 255 (Creation, leadership of a criminal community or criminal organization, as well as participation in it) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The attacker was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. On this fact, criminal proceedings were opened under Part 2, 3 of Article 289 (Illegal possession of a vehicle), Art. 290 (Destruction, forgery or replacement of vehicle unit and unit numbers) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum sentence is imprisonment for a term of eight to twelve years with or without confiscation of property.
