An excited 70-year-old resident of Zelenyi Yar village in Obukhiv district called the police and reported that she had been searched.

Law enforcement officers found that the pensioner was visited by a group of unknown women who introduced themselves as the ministers of the monastery. The attackers assured the grandmother that she was “done”, and therefore offered to help for a monetary reward. The fraudsters cheated out of the old woman 5,000 euros, 1000 dollars and disappeared in an unknown direction.

The operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department together with the employees of the Kagarlyk police department conducted a number of operational and search activities and established the identity of the perpetrators. One of the defendants was a 50-year-old native of Sumy region, who had already been tried for fraud and served a sentence from 2015 to 2018 in places of imprisonment.

The fraudster was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a fine of three thousand to four thousand non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens or correctional labor for a period of one to two years, or restriction of liberty for up to five years, or imprisonment for up to three years.

If you or your loved ones became victims of these persons, please contact the Kiev police.
