This was stated today, September 14, by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky during the delivery of 86 new service vehicles to the police officers of the communities.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the community police officer is a project that 100% increases the trust of citizens not only in the police, but also in the state in general. But he stressed that the issue of wages of police officers remains acute.

“Low pay is one of the factors that makes officers change jobs. It needs to be reviewed in the context of the budget process that is currently underway. This is an important issue of security and trust of citizens,” said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Denis Monastyrsky stressed that in general in the National Police salaries are adjusted in the range of 12-16 thousand, with allowances and payments for years of service. For district centers, rural communities, this is the minimum possible, but if it is a community police officer in charge of several villages and settlements where he works, it is not enough. In cities, it does not actually stand up to competition.

“At present, the people's deputies who are involved in the projects of the Ministry of Internal Affairs understand the value and necessity of ensuring the security of the country. We will appeal to them for support, so that after the adoption of the draft state budget, which the Law obliges to submit to the parliament tomorrow through the proposals of deputy committees, factions, groups. We will provide proposals for equalizing the balance of average wages by region. This is something that will be able to align and leave on the ground the personnel who are currently working in the National Police,” he said.

In turn, the head of the National Police of Ukraine Igor Klymenko said that the minimum cash allowance in the National Police is 12 thousand hryvnias, and the average salary is 13 thousand hryvnias. Police officers of the community are currently paid up to 14 thousand hryvnias.

“The basic set of social needs that the police officer currently has, in our opinion, is not being met. Also problematic is the issue of the quality of personnel selection for positions in the National Police. We are faced with a problem - will a highly qualified specialist, a lawyer, go to the police service for such a salary? This is a matter of competition,” the head of the National Police said.
