The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine will strengthen cooperation with Turkish law enforcement partners — Denis Monastyrsky

Today, September 3, the Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastyrsky held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Ukraine Jagmur Ahmet Guldere.

The head of the Turkish diplomatic mission expressed deep gratitude to Ukraine for the prompt assistance in the elimination of large-scale forest fires that raged in several southern regions of Turkey this summer. He also praised the professional skills of the Ukrainian pilots, emphasizing as a fact the “strong solidarity between the ministries of internal affairs” of both states.

In turn, Denis Monastyrsky noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs decided to send to Turkey two of the four firefighter planes currently operated by the State Emergency Service. At the same time, according to the minister, plans to significantly increase the fleet of domestic fire aviation next year.

During the meeting, a number of issues of further development of Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation in the spheres of activity of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were discussed, including the multilateral format within the framework of the Black Sea Border Cooperation Forum.

Denis Monastyrsky expressed hope for further deepening of cooperation with Turkey in order to protect the national interests of both states and strengthen regional security, effectively counter transnational crime and terrorism.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine considers its strategic priority to strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey in the framework of international law enforcement cooperation, in particular in the areas of combating human trafficking, combating drug trafficking, information protection and cybersecurity,” Denis Monastyrsky noted.

In the context of updating and expanding the contractual and legal framework between the countries, it was discussed the need to finalize the draft Protocol on Amendments to the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation of law enforcement agencies of December 04, 2009, in particular for updating certain provisions of the Agreement on Considering the current trends in crime and the inclusion of the National Police of Ukraine and a number of other Ukrainian law enforcement agencies in the list of competent authorities responsible for cooperation within the framework of the Agreement.

The Minister also stressed the importance of completing the implementation by the Turkish side of the domestic and state procedures for the entry into force of the Agreement between the Governments of Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey on mutual recognition and exchange of national driver's licenses.
