The Ministry of Internal Affairs will contribute to UN humanitarian missions in Ukraine — Arsen Avakov

Today, April 9, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov held a meeting with the Coordinator of the UN System in Ukraine Osnat Lubrani.

Arsen Avakov thanked Osnat Lubrani for joint projects and for fruitful cooperation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the accredited bodies of the Organization in Ukraine.

The parties raised the issue of cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the institutions of the UN system in Ukraine, in particular in the field of passage of humanitarian cargo to the territory of Donetsk region.

“The Ukrainian side is ready to contribute to humanitarian missions under the auspices of the United Nations in Ukraine at all checkpoints,” Arsen Avakov noted.

In response, the Coordinator of the UN System in Ukraine Osnat Lubrani assured of the support of the projects of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from the Organization.

“The UN Development Programme, the UN Operations Service Office, the UN Population Fund, UN Women, the UN Human Rights Office (UNCHR) — all these and other structures of the Organization in Ukraine are satisfied with the cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and are committed to the successful implementation of important joint projects,” she said.

For reference: The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, together with the central executive authorities, implements 22 projects of UN institutions in Ukraine with a total cost of more than 200 million US dollars.

Of these, 10 projects are implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with the National Police of Ukraine, 8 by the State Border Service of Ukraine and 4 by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

The implementation of these projects is aimed at ensuring gender equality, combating violence, strengthening public security and peace-building in Eastern Ukraine, creating an effective law enforcement system, contributing to solving key problems regarding the low level of law order and justice, preventing and combating smuggling, crime and corruption at the border, which will contribute to improving security, stability and sustainable development in the region.
