Today, October 29, the first meeting of the working group was held, which included representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Communities and Territories, the Ministry of Education, the Education Ombudsman, representatives of UNICEF and representatives of NGOs.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko, opening the meeting of the group, said that the main task is to develop best practices for the “Educator of Security” project.

“Creating a safe educational environment is one of the most important tasks facing the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the state leadership. Today we are holding the first meeting of the working group, which is formed by order of the Minister. We are glad that our group has become interdepartmental, that we have been joined by representatives from other departments, ministries and public organizations. The working group was formed to develop the project “Safety Educator”. Our task is to build and find the best methods for this project and implement them,” the Deputy Minister noted.

The experts presented their findings for the launch of the pilot project.

Recall that the “Security Educator” project is educators who will undergo appropriate selection and training on the basis of educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system. They will understand the specifics of working with children, navigate in those problems that exist today, including in the legislative plane, as well as focus on international practices.

Ekaterina Pavlichenko noted that security educators will constantly be in schools and will become a link between police officers and parents, children, and school administration. If there is information that needs to be responded to, they will pass it on to the police and work closely with law enforcement to create a safe environment in the school.

“Our international UNICEF partners are involved in this project, and we are currently developing a thematic plan on which we will train safety educators. The desire and ability to work with children is one of the key aspects for such educators. If these are small schools located nearby, then there can be one safety educator for several schools,” said the deputy interior minister.
