Ministry of Internal Affairs ready to develop joint projects with Estonian partners — Mary Akopian

Today, October 5, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mary Akopian met with the Chancellor of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Estonia Laura Lugna and the Special Representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Estonia Tarmo Kokhom.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs thanked the Estonian partners for their consistent political support, recognition of the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine. Mary Akopian noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine highly appreciates Ukrainian-Estonian cooperation in the civil security sector.

“Our meeting is a great opportunity to deepen cooperation between law enforcement agencies of our countries and develop further joint projects,” she said.

Mary Akopian stressed that Estonia has significant advances in digitalization, especially in government services and projects.

“The units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will gladly familiarize themselves with the experience of Estonian colleagues in the field of digitization and digitalization of services for citizens,” said Mary Akopian.

The Deputy Minister stressed that all issues of bilateral police cooperation should be reflected in the new framework document - the Agreement between the National Police of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, the draft of which is being considered by the Estonian side.

The Chancellor of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Estonia, Laur Lugna, thanked for the meeting and stressed that Estonia is happy to cooperate with Ukraine and is gaining experience in fighting a hybrid war with Russia.

“Our position in supporting Ukraine remains unchanged. We study the experience of your state as a country that had to fight with a strong adversary and is ready to share its achievements,” said Laur Lugna.

Separately, the parties focused on deepening dialogue and bilateral cooperation on border protection issues, both on land and water, as well as on solving logistical problems at border crossing points, exchange of experience on the creation of volunteer fire teams, and joint work in countering cyber threats.

For reference: The Chancellor of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Estonia, Laura Lugna, is in Ukraine as part of the Delegation of State Officials of the Republic of Estonia, headed by the Chancellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Mr. Yonatan Vseviov, who also visited the area of the operation of the Joint Forces during his visit.
