The international checkpoint “Izvaryne” was located in Luhansk region, where citizens were passed through the state border daily.
However, June 2014 brought its own adjustments to the daily lives of both border guards and border civilians.
On June 8, 2014, the first shelling of the Izvaryne checkpoint began. The day before, the separatists issued an ultimatum for the border guards to leave the checkpoint until the evening. No one was going to fulfill the demands of the terrorists. On the same day, under the onslaught of fire, the militants tried to lure to the side of the “Russian measure” and failed to break the law enforcement officers. The border guards resisted and gave a decent rebuff to the occupying forces.
But the militants did not calm down that the border guards remained unprepared. On June 20, 2014, after dark, around 9 o'clock in the evening, the militants approached the checkpoint in cars and opened fire on the border depot. Border guards primarily evacuated civilians who were at the checkpoint to safe places. After this, the change of border outfits moved to pre-prepared firing positions and took up the fight. The enemy frantically “broke away” over the border guards using subbarrel grenade launchers, mortars and cannons. The lawmen fought until the last raid without retreating one step and after a long confrontation, the guards of the state border were forced to retreat under the pressure of the enemy...
That night, the border guards, having destroyed equipment and weapons, left the checkpoint.
