The UN peacekeeping mission in the Congo was supplemented by two specialists from the Ministry of Internal Affairs

Recently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine of July 15, 2021 No. 297/2021 “On the dispatch of national personnel for Ukraine's participation in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo”, once again sent two representatives of the national staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the UN Mission.

Lieutenant-Colonel of the National Guard of Ukraine Astakhov Alexander Valerievich and Captain of the National Police of Ukraine Dagolich Mykhailo Ivanovich will ensure peace processes as part of the mission in the Congo. They were appointed as a liaison officer with the Mission Support Center and an organized crime forensics instructor, based in Goma, DR Congo, respectively.

Currently, five representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are serving in the UN Mission in DR Congo. Among them - one policeman and four servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine. The working language of the operation is French.

Before their assignment to the Mission, the employees attended a training and organizational meeting at the Special Peacekeeping Center of the National Academy of Internal Affairs, where they underwent pre-mission training, according to the subject matter approved by the UN Secretariat, mandatory for all peacekeeping countries. It is imperative that peacekeepers study international law, human rights, protection of the civilian population, the basics of gender equality and prevention of sexual violence, as well as driving, personal safety rules and medicine, etc.
