Deputy Minister Mary Akopyan met with the delegation of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, consisting of the Chief of the Police Staff Armen Mkrtchyan and the Head of the International Cooperation Unit Armen Sedrakyan.

The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation in the context of implementing reforms in the civil security sector in view of the recent large-scale changes in Armenia concerning the police department. In particular, in the summer in Yerevan, a newly created regiment of patrol police began work, which will eventually completely replace the so-called traffic police.

According to Armen Mkrtchyan, the Armenian government intends to implement a radical reform of the internal security sector in the country with the creation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is known to have been liquidated in this state since 2003.

It was the Armenian partners who, during their visit to Kiev, had the opportunity to get acquainted in detail with the work of the patrol police department, visited the situation center of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv, the Golosiivskyi Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv and the police department of the Main Directorate of the National Police, emphasized their interest in the Ukrainian case of civil security sector reforms. The Academy.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is open to dialogue,” said Mary Akopian, “and is ready to share the experience of the stage of changes already passed by Ukrainians, developments and successful implementation of effective projects.”

The strategy of the reform, initiated by the Armenian side at the behest of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, includes the establishment of an operational management center in the country, transformation into the police forces, as well as transformation into the criminal police and community police. Armenia's assistance in these processes is provided by international partners - the United States, the EU, the OSCE, the World Bank.

In order to establish more effective cooperation in the context of exchange of experience, the Deputy Minister suggested that the Armenian side consider the possibility of appointing a police liaison officer at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Ukraine.
