Nearly $25 million in assistance to border guards from the United States. Projects registered
As already reported, the State Border Guard Service and the US Embassy signed a Joint Action Plan for the implementation of the $20 million International Technical Assistance Project a few weeks ago. Currently, the Project has been registered in accordance with the requirements approved by the Government of Ukraine.
“The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, together with the Law Enforcement Department of the US Embassy in Ukraine, carried out very important work to strengthen the capabilities of the border agency. We are sincerely grateful to our partners for their help in increasing the potential of the service. The result of our cooperation was a new International Technical Assistance Project. In view of the old and new challenges, it is aimed at the security of the northern and eastern borders of Ukraine,” said the Head of the State Border Service Serhiy Deineko.
The project will start in January and will be implemented throughout the year. The amount of the agreed financing is 20 million US dollars. It will contribute to the provision of the priority needs of border units.
“Modern means of videotaping and unmanned complexes, individual protection of border guards, as well as ensuring their location in the field, strengthening of transport and means of communication are the needs that we have agreed with our strategic partners. For the speedy implementation of the Project, we will make every effort and jointly evaluate the effectiveness”, - Serhiy Deineko stressed.
Recipients of the Project are all border detachments performing tasks on the border with Russia and Belarus.
“This is not the only new example of the support of the State Border Guard by the United States of America. As part of cooperation with the US Department of State under the Export Control and Border Security Program (EXBS), another Project has recently been registered. According to him, partners will help us in the development of the infrastructure of the border. In particular, it will help to increase the capabilities of the department with elements used in border arrangement and development of remote surveillance systems. The amount of financing has been agreed in the amount of 4.5 million US dollars,” noted the head of the State Fiscal Service.
