Cyberpolice of Vinnytsia region exposed a man in unauthorized access to personal data of 100,000 people

Using the vulnerabilities of the travel agency's website, the defendant took over the customer database. For a committed offender, he faces up to three years in prison.

The illegal activity of the 26-year-old local resident was exposed by the cyber police officers of Vinnytsia region together with the investigative department of the Vinnytsia district police department of the region.

The man, using the vulnerabilities of the website of a local travel agency, unauthorizedly copied the client base. The company's website contained information on phone numbers, full names of citizens, place of registration, links to accounts in social networks, and in some cases — copies of identity documents.

The database contained information about 100 thousand people. The offender distributed information from the illegally obtained database to third parties.

Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the place of residence and registration of the defendant. As a result, computer equipment, mobile phones and data stores were seized. The removed will be sent to carry out appropriate examinations.

On this fact, criminal proceedings were opened under Part 1 of Art. 361 (Unauthorized interference in the operation of computers, automated systems, computer networks or telecommunication networks) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to three years in prison. The issue of notifying the defendant of suspicion is being resolved. Investigative actions continue.
