Cyberpolice stopped a fraudulent investment scheme, the organizers of which robbed citizens for a quarter of a billion hryvnias

A group of attackers created a fictitious online exchange and offered investors to receive 7% profit from investing in cryptocurrency. The minimum amount of investments was 150 thousand hryvnias.

The fraud scheme was exposed by the cyber police of the Kiev region together with the investigators of the Podolsk Department of the Kyiv Police.

The attackers created an electronic exchange application that had similarities to the world-famous exchanges that sell cryptocurrency. Investors were promised a profit of 7% per day. The minimum amount of investments was 150 thousand hryvnias. Those involved also had so-called ambassadors who attracted new investors to the project. However, when depositors tried to return their money, the organizers informed them that there was no such possibility and in the future — they blocked them. It was established that in this way the attackers appropriated more than a quarter of a billion hryvnias of citizens.

On the territory of the city of Cherkasy and Khmelnytsky region, police officers conducted seven sanctioned searches in the homes of the defendants and in their cars. Mobile phones, computer equipment, bank cards, “rough” records, money, as well as weapons were seized. Employees of the special purpose police regiment of Cherkasy region were also involved in the searches.

Criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to eight years in prison. Investigative actions continue. Procedural management is carried out by the Podolsk District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv.
