Cyber police of Lviv region exposed a criminal group in the online trade of counterfeit household goods
The defendants set up the production of counterfeit products, which were sold on the Internet, pretending to be the original. As a result, rights holders suffered more than UAH 3 million in losses. The attackers were exposed by the employees of the Lviv region cyber police together with the investigators of the regional police.
The scheme for the production of counterfeit was established by four defendants aged 46-51 years. In workshops and warehouses, they illegally manufactured washing powder, shampoos and dishwashing products. Products were packaged in containers with the names of famous world manufacturers. Further, a fake under the guise of original products was sold on ad sites and through wholesale distributors. According to preliminary estimates, rights holders suffered more than 3 million hryvnias of losses.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches of places of manufacture and storage of counterfeit goods on the territory of Lviv, Rivne and Volyn regions. More than 45 tons of raw materials, packaging materials and equipment for manufacturing products were seized. Employees of a special purpose police battalion were also involved in the searches.
Criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 229 (Illegal use of a mark for goods and services, brand name, qualified indication of the origin of goods) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions continue. Procedural management is carried out by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
