Cyber police of Kyiv region stopped the activity of fraudulent call center
Operators called citizens under the guise of bank employees and police. In conversations, financial data was asked, and then the victims' money was transferred to controlled accounts. Monthly profit amounted to 1.5 million hryvnias.
The illegal activities of two residents of the Kyiv region were exposed by cyber police officers of the Kyiv region.
In the capital, the defendants formed a call center, the operators of which posed as bank employees. They engaged 15 operators to work, for which they developed detailed instructions for fraudulent actions. Also, organizers at hacker forums bought databases of bank customers who were called by call center operators.
Citizens were notified of card blocking and offered to undergo verification, increase the limit on bank cards, open a new account with a certain limit, and also reported “approval” to increase the credit balance on bank cards.
Under such pretexts, operators asked for confidential information, including SVV codes, numbers, PIN codes of bank cards and authorization data for online banking. In the future, the victims' money was transferred to controlled accounts issued to third parties. The money received was then converted into cryptocurrency.
Also, call center operators called citizens allegedly on behalf of police officers. Under the pretext of recording fraudulent actions that allegedly occur with their card accounts, they questioned financial data.
The monthly profit of the attackers amounted to one and a half million hryvnias. Currently, law enforcement officers establish the circle of victims.
Law enforcement officers conducted a search at the location of the call center.
According to the results, hard drives, computer equipment, data drives, mobile phones, “rough” records and server equipment were seized.
According to this fact, criminal proceedings were opened under Part 4 of Art. 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sex sanction provides for imprisonment for a term of five to twelve years.
