Cyber police exposed a man in the illegal sale of enterprise databases
A resident of the capital copied the company's databases for further resale. Losses caused to the rightholder can reach more than 2 million hryvnias. The defendant was declared a suspect.
The illegal activities of a 33-year-old resident of Kyiv were exposed by employees of the Cyber Police Department together with the Main Investigation Department of the National Police.
The man, having authorization data, carried out unauthorized copying of databases and subsequently provided access to them on a paid basis, placing them on a remote server. The databases contained data on the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine, they are used by pharmaceutical companies for marketing research and evaluation of the effectiveness of their work. In particular, they contained information on prices and retail sales of medical products, cosmetics, biologically active substances, baby food, disinfectants.
The defendant sold them at a price more than 10 times less than that offered by the official representative. According to preliminary data, the rights-holder suffered more than 2 million hryvnias of losses.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the place of residence and work of the defendant. Removed computer equipment, mobile phones, “rough” records and money. During the inspection of the equipment, the cyber police found copies of databases that were illegally sold by the defendant.
The offender was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
According to this fact, criminal proceedings were opened under Part 3 of Art. 190 (Fraud), Part 3 of Art. 176 (Violation of copyright and related rights), part 2 of Art. 361-2 (Unauthorized sale or distribution of information with restricted access stored in computers, automated systems, computer networks or on media of such information) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The defendant was informed of the suspicion.
