Cyberpolice of Dnipropetrovsk region exposed a man in the sale of confidential data of a trading network
A former employee of a supermarket chain illegally collected and sold information that contained trade secrets to competing companies. Thus, the network suffered more than a million hryvnias in losses. The defendant was declared a suspect.
The illegal activities of the 33-year-old man were exposed by the officers of the Department of Counter Cybercrime in the Dnipropetrovsk Region together with the investigators of the Dnieper District Police Department and with the assistance of employees of the security service of the trading corporation.
The scheme for the sale of confidential information was established by the former head of the analytical department of the grocery supermarket chain. For a reward of more than 130 thousand hryvnias, the current employees of the corporation passed on to the defendant information containing a commercial secret. In particular, he illegally received reports on the sale of goods, information about planned promotional discounts, information about the opening of new stores.
The offender sold the collected data to competing companies. Thus, the supermarket chain suffered more than a million hryvnias of losses.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches and seized evidence of involvement in illegal activities.
The man was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Currently, law enforcement officers are identifying his accomplices.
The attacker was declared a suspect under Part 3 of Art. 27, Part 2, 3 of Art. 362 (Unauthorized actions with information that is processed in computers, automated systems, computer networks or stored on media of such information, committed by a person who has the right to access it) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The suspect faces up to six years in prison. The issue of choosing a precautionary measure is being resolved.
Procedural management is carried out by the Central District Prosecutor's Office of Dnipro.
