This was reported by the Deputy Minister during the meeting of heads of law enforcement agencies on combating child crime, protecting the rights and interests of children who have been victims of criminal aggression, as well as the formation of a child-friendly justice system. The meeting was chaired by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova.

“Now, when children are negatively affected, including due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, as well as certain economic and socio-cultural problems - the key aspect of a sustainable safe environment is the creation of a safe environment for children,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.

The Deputy Minister noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs pays attention to preventive measures, in particular to conducting information campaigns in order to raise awareness of the population. Thanks to which, children began to turn to law enforcement agencies more often for help. Which is evidence that children have learned to recognize what domestic violence is, know where to go for help and trust the police.

According to Ekaterina Pavlichenko, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is also actively working on the implementation of the best experience of other countries in the field of justice for minors, and ensuring the interests of those minors who have committed criminal offenses, become witnesses or victims of crimes.

“The application of the procedure for conducting interrogation/questioning of children according to the Green Room method is undergoing an active renovation, in addition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs supports the introduction of the Barnahus model, which is aimed at applying an interdepartmental approach to working with children affected by violence and providing the necessary assistance by relevant specialists,” the hall said Deputy Minister.

Kateryna Pavlichenko noted that the system of juvenile prevention of the National Police of Ukraine is being actively reformed as a quality law enforcement agency for working with children, taking into account European standards and requirements of international law in the field of juvenile justice and protection of children's rights. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and NPU also began to create an effective prevention system in educational institutions that will help prevent the commission of offenses both by and against children, which will increase the level of protection of children and their interests.
