This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs during a speech at the international scientific-practical conference “Protecting the Child from Violence and Abuse: Modern Challenges”.

Kateryna Pavlichenko noted that during 2020 alone, more than 3.5 thousand children were affected by crimes, among which there are serious and especially serious ones, so a key aspect of a sustainable safe environment is the creation of a safe environment for children.

“The problem of cyber security, bullying, domestic violence, difficult life circumstances in which children find themselves determined the need to update existing approaches and improve mechanisms for working with children and their protection by the National Police of Ukraine. That is why the activities of juvenile prevention units have been refocused, bringing them into a separate independent unit of the structure of the National Police, and a sector for working with crimes against children has been created in the Main Investigation Department. This will strengthen prevention and ensure a high-quality investigation of crimes against children,” the Deputy Minister stressed.

According to Ekaterina Pavlichenko, the Ministry of Internal Affairs pays great attention to the professional training of personnel, in particular those who work in units with the authority to provide assistance to children, respond to violations of their rights and commit violence. Law enforcement officers constantly participate in various trainings, webinars, workshops and supervisions. Also, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in close partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science is implementing an initiative to create a safe educational environment aimed at increasing the level of protection of the rights and interests of children, preventing them from committing crimes and creating an effective prevention system in educational institutions.

“I am sure that the results of the conference will be reflected both in the process of training specialists and in the practical activities of law enforcement officers,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
