Kateryna Pavlichenko: Ministry of Internal Affairs implements gender equality policy in agency activities

This was said by the Deputy Minister of the Interior today, September 13, during a visit to the residence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Larisa Galadza. There was a meeting with the Commander of the Joint Operational and Tactical Group of the Armed Forces of Canada (Operation “UNIFIER”) in Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Melanie Lake.

Representatives and representatives of the bodies of the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also took part in the event.

The parties discussed gender equality in the security sector, challenges and perceptions of women in law enforcement professions, and shared Ukraine's achievements in law enforcement and ambitious plans for the future.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Channels to Ukraine Larisa Galadza drew attention to the need to debunk prejudiced attitudes towards certain categories of persons - both by society itself and by employees.

For her part, Melanie Lake noted the rapid introduction of gender equality in the security and defense sector of Ukraine, a rapid increase in the number of women, including in leadership positions and military ranks.

“The opportunity to meet this level is a powerful impetus for personal and professional development. I thank the Embassy of Canada and personally Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada Larisa Galadzi for organizing the meeting, as well as for their continued support in promoting the idea of gender equality,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
