Suspect in human trafficking who was wanted by police in Rivne region for more than a year was extradited from Cyprus
Accompanied by a convoy and employees of the Migration Police Department, a 31-year-old native of Zhytomyr yesterday, November 15, was delivered from Boryspil airport to conduct investigative actions to the GUNP in Rivne region.
Within the framework of the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings opened under Part 2 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in February 2020, investigators of the investigative department and employees of the Department of Migration Police of the GUNP in Rivne region conducted a number of operational and investigative measures aimed at exposing the criminal activities of a native of Zhytomyr. The man, according to a preliminary conspiracy of a group of persons, intending to obtain illegal profit, recruited two residents of Rivne region for further transportation across the state border of Ukraine and sexual exploitation to one of the countries of Europe. He was looking for women who, due to a combination of difficult personal, family and other circumstances, were in a vulnerable state and agreed to go abroad for further employment.
Investigators gathered enough evidence and informed the attacker in absentia of the suspicion. However, the suspect was hiding from the authorities of pre-trial investigation.He was declared a state and then an international wanted man. The police found out that the 31-year-old man left the territory of Ukraine and went to the Kingdom of Denmark, where he settled with his roommate.
It was possible to expose the attacker thanks to the clear interaction of the agents of the Migration Police of Rivne region, investigators and employees of the sector of international police cooperation in the city of Larnaca in Cyprus, where he came to rest.
The question of choosing a precautionary measure for him is being resolved. The sanction of the article provides for three to eight years in prison.
