DUI together with the police of Donetsk region opened the first in Ukraine “Creative space “Open police”
Today, the first in Ukraine “Creative space “Open Police” was presented. The Donetsk Police, Donetsk Law Institute, international partners — the UN Development Programme and the Consultative Mission of the European Union, representatives of NGOs “Donetsk Women's Council”, “Mariupol Development Fund” and Mariupol City Council collaborated to create a unique space.
The Police Hub is designed to conduct trainings, public discussions and other events that will facilitate transparent and faithful decisions on community security needs. This will increase the public's trust in the police. Citizens, together with law enforcement, will be directly involved in developing and making decisions to create a safe environment. The innovation will contribute to improving the quality of police services, because the community will receive exactly the service it needs. This base for the cadets of Donetsk Law Institute is a unique opportunity to develop communication skills with groups of people united by the commonality of the situation, as well as the ability to show and improve their professional qualities of future law enforcement officers.
The total cost of the project is 4 million hryvnias. The platform contains only modern equipment, which, by the way, is focused on people with disabilities. Currently, a series of joint activities with the community have already been launched on the topic of child safety, the fight against illegal deforestation, safe tourism, the prevention of domestic violence, etc.
“By supporting the efforts of the Donetsk police, we are strengthening our community, which will be more protected. Together, we will make the level of public trust in law enforcement even higher. Together we will make the city of Mariupol the safest city not only in Ukraine,” said the rector of DUI Serhiy Vitvitskyi.
“The Donetsk police are open to cooperation with the community, and we are extremely inspired by what our partners believe in us. We have a common goal — security, and it is thanks to this powerful support that such creative spaces can continue to open in other cities,” said Mykola Semenyshyn.
“The creative space “Open Police” is a tool to involve the community of Mariupol in finding common security solutions. This is the first community center in the city that will promote dialogue between the police and society,” said Antti Hartikainen, Chairman of the European Economic and Social Committee.
The project was supported by Deputy Head of the National Police Oleksandr Facevych.
“Only joint efforts will make it possible to feel more deeply the needs of the community, more flexibly and effectively implement human rights policies. The creation of a single security space is one of the priorities of the National Police, the largest project of which is the “Community Police Officer”. In two years, it proved its effectiveness, gaining about 70% of the trust of local residents. And we get trust only as a result of our openness,” Oleksandr Fatsevich emphasized.
Donetsk Law Institute took part in the implementation of the project within the framework of a memorandum of cooperation with the Main Directorate of the National Police in Donetsk Oblast.
