Accident in Chernihiv region: police detained the driver of the van and guarded him in the hospital ward
Police detained the driver of a truck involved in an accident that killed 13 people and injured 7 others.
It is previously known that the regular bus on the connection “Borzna-Chernihiv” was moving in the direction of the regional center. A truck driven by a 44-year-old resident of Chernihiv district drove towards him. On the section of the highway between the villages of Snovyanka and Kiselevka, the truck driver failed to control, drove into the oncoming lane and allowed a collision with a bus.
As a result of the accident, 11 people died on the spot (including the bus driver), one person died in the ambulance and another died in the hospital.
Seven people were hospitalized to medical institutions of Chernihiv with injuries of varying severity. All those affected are now being provided with the necessary assistance.
The driver of the truck was also hospitalized. After providing medical assistance, the man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Now he is in a specialized ward under police guard. The issue of notifying the driver about the suspicion of committing a crime, provided for in part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic safety rules, which caused the death of several people), - said the head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernihiv region Volodymyr Nidzelsky.
At the moment, the investigation collects materials about the event, establishes and interviews witnesses. A number of expert studies are assigned. At the scene, a tracological examination has already been carried out to determine the exact place and angle of collision of vehicles. Examinations of the technical condition of vehicles are also assigned. In particular, the operation of brakes, steering wheels and the degree of wear of vehicle tires will be investigated.
In order to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation, police ask potential witnesses and eyewitnesses to the accident to call 073-200-12-31, 096-273-21-22, or “102.”
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
Recall that yesterday around 8 am the police received a report that a regular bus and a truck collided near the village of Kyselivka, Chernihiv district.
During the operation of the police and emergency services, traffic on the section of the road was blocked in both directions. The police redirected traffic flows to the bypass through Gorodnya and Snovsk. The normal operation of the track was resumed yesterday at 19.45 after the completion of a complex of investigative and operational measures.
