Trust in the National Police is growing - citizens are more likely to seek help due to domestic violence — Kateryna Pavlichenko

This was announced today, December 9, by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko during the forum “Ukraine without violence”, where the results of the World Action “16 Days Against Violence” were summed up.

The event discussed the implementation of the state policy on preventing and combating domestic violence and summarized the results of the large-scale information project “Ric in tim 2.0”, which was implemented on the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the patronage of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Affairs integration of Ukraine, with the participation of First Lady Elena Zelenska and the Ministry of Social Policy.

Kateryna Pavlichenko informed that the Exhibition “Thing in tim 2.0” about 16 real stories of domestic violence is being held in Ukraine for the second time.

“These are stories that we took from police protocols, but they were somewhat interpreted by creative agencies. For a few more days, the exhibition can be visited in the Gulliver shopping center in Kiev, then it will be moved to the city. Mariupol, namely - Donetsk National University of Internal Affairs. We will also give access to it to other regions,” the deputy interior minister said.

In addition, the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stressed that citizens began to seek help from the National Police more often due to domestic violence.

“The number of appeals to the National Police is increasing throughout Ukraine. An increase in the effectiveness of the response of police officers to reports of domestic violence is recorded. To date, 50% more protocols on administrative offenses have been registered. The number of prohibited prescriptions increased by 15% compared to the previous period. There are more and more offenders on the register. People began to turn to the police more often for help,” she noted.

Also, Ekaterina Pavlichenko informed that in 2021 the Ministry of Internal Affairs will focus on combating domestic violence in rural areas.

“We understand that in large places there is a lot of talk about this, and in villages and villages this problem is still silent. A separate painful problem is children in a situation of domestic violence. The Ministry of Internal Affairs focuses on ensuring a safe environment for them,” the deputy minister said.
