DMS has already issued more than 6 million ID cards and more than 17 million foreign biometric passports — Maksym Sokoliuk
Head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Maxim Sokoliuk spoke about the dynamics of Ukrainians' use of digital documents during the All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine 30. Digitalization”.
“The attitude and use of digital passports has reached a new level. If we return to biometrics, fingerprints in a passport are mandatori, that is, it is mandatory for citizens over 12 years old, then in the ID card it is optional. We started, of course, with 0%, then 10%, 15%, now we are up to 86%. Now more than 6 million ID cards and more than 17 million foreign biometric passports have been issued. Ukrainians trust digital documents,” Maksym Sokolyuk said.
In his speech, the DMS Chairman outlined the priorities and practical achievements of the Migration Service for the introduction of digital technologies and focused, in particular, on the issues:
- introduction of ID card as a tool for identity identification;
- security and features of reading and verification of biometric documents;
- use of digital copies of ID-card and passport on the Unified State Services Portal and in mobile in relation to “Diya”;
- participation of the DMS in the implementation of a new experimental project on online registration of residence;
- gradual cancellation of paper certificates and transition to the provision of services in paperless mode.
