Desnyansky District Court of Chernihiv chooses a precautionary measure for the suspect in the fatal beating of a policeman
Law enforcement officers detained young men involved in the beating of two police officers. As a result of severe head injuries, one policeman died on the spot, the second was hospitalized. The police sent to the court the materials of petitions for the choice of a precautionary measure.
On October 2, around 1 pm on Nezalezhnosti Street in Chernihiv, a group of young men of athletic build during a sudden conflict inflicted bodily injuries on two police officers. At the time of the incident, both police officers were on leave and were in civilian clothes.
It is previously known that one of the police officers was inflicted more than 20 blows to the head, as a result of which he died at the scene. The second policeman was beaten by the assailants and robbed in a unconscious state. The man was hospitalized with bodily injuries.
Criminal proceedings have been opened under paragraph 12 of part 2 of Article 115 (premeditated murder committed by a group of persons) and Part 2 of Article 186 (robbery combined with violence, or by prior conspiracy by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In the course of urgent investigative actions, law enforcement officers delivered six young men to Chernihiv district police department.
Four of them, who directly inflicted bodily harm on police officers, were reported by investigators on October 3 on suspicion of premeditated murder. The suspects are Chernihiv residents, the youngest of them is 16 years old, the other two are 17 years old, and the oldest is 18.
Also, the police reported on suspicion of robbery to a 32-year-old Chernihiv, who took the bag of one of the victims.
The police detained the suspects in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
An investigation is ongoing, during which the police establish all the circumstances of the incident and the role of each in the commission of the crimes.
Currently, in the Desnyansky District Court of Chernihiv there is a meeting on the selection of preventive measures for all suspects.
