Today, September 9, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Larisa Galadza.
The Minister thanked the Government of Canada and the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine for their consistent and effective support in the implementation of the transformation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system and the strengthening of its capabilities.
A positive assessment of the activities of the Canadian Police Mission in Ukraine, as well as the initiatives of the Canadian side to develop the potential of the CIS units for mining activities, were expressed.
The parties discussed the possibility of involving Canada in the implementation of new projects initiated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine aimed at developing a safe environment for children (Safe Childhood project), protection and observance of the rights and freedoms of detainees (project “Custody records”). In addition, it is proposed to join the implementation of the project of psychological support for law enforcement officers involved in serving in the Joint Forces Operation zone (“Face to Life” project).
According to the Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, the Parliament and the Government of Canada are positive about continuing cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, aiming to continue to support the positive changes taking place in the civil security sector of our country and contribute to the development of a safe and protected environment.
During the meeting, the importance of the dialogue on migration issues taking place within the Ukrainian-Canadian Working Group on Population Mobility in order to optimize opportunities for mobility of Canadian and Ukrainian youth was noted. This initiative will contribute to establishing communication between the Governments of Canada and Ukraine on further simplification of the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens traveling to Canada.
As a reminder, Ukraine and Canada are creating a working group to respond to global migration challenges and further dialogue on mobility issues.
