Denis Monastyrsky: “The preliminary cause of the accident at PJSC “RivneAzot” is corrosion of the pipeline section”
There have been no major repairs with the replacement of the pipeline at the enterprise in recent decades. Non-compliance of the material with the declared characteristics of the manufacturer, as well as corrosion of the pipeline section are the preliminary cause of the accident at PJSC “RivneAzot”.
This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastyrsky during a meeting of the Government today, July 21.
According to him, the final conclusion on the causes of the emergency will be made by a special commission, which is currently working on the territory of the enterprise. “Yesterday at 16:57 at the private joint-stock company “RivneAzot” there was an emergency stop, the automation of the unit of the workshop of non-concentrated nitric acid and the depressurization of the pipeline worked. There was a one-time emission of a small amount of nitrous gases on the territory of the plant. After 26 minutes, the gas leak was stopped by the staff of the facility,” Denis Monastyrsky said.
He added that as a result of the incident, the work of one section of the nitric acid workshop was suspended. The production process of the enterprise did not stop. “There are no victims of pollution of the territory. According to the information of the State Emergency Service, gas emissions do not pose a threat to life and health of the population,” the Minister of Internal Affairs assured.
Denis Monastyrsky also reported that the police entered information to the ERDR under Part 1 of Art. 273 Criminal Code (Violation of safety rules at explosive enterprises or workshops). The course of the investigation will be monitored by the Main Investigation Department of the National Police.
“In order to prevent and prevent such accidents, we consider it necessary to entrust the State Labor Department, the State Emergency Service and State Ecology to carry out unscheduled inspections of all chemically hazardous facilities of the first and second stages with practical elaboration of the actions of personnel and facilities of emergency and rescue services in responding to such accidents. This check can be completed by the end of the year,” added the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
