On the eve of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a press conference will be held on the launch of the documentary audio series “It Won't Happen to Me”.

Why is it important? Today, there are up to 40 million people in the world who are in labor slavery. It is almost like the population of Ukraine. For comparison, over 400 years of the transatlantic slave trade, more than 12 million Africans were exported to the Americas.

According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 260,000 Ukrainians have been victims of human trafficking since 1991 — and these are the only ones who have officially reported it to state bodies. 97% of them are cases of labor slavery.

Who developed the audio series? The project was created on the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the National Police of Ukraine with the support of the Canadian-Ukrainian Police Development Project. The MEGOGO Audio team worked on the production in cooperation with the journalists of the publication “Zaborona”.

Speakers:

Kateryna Pavlichenko, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs;

Valeriia Ionan, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for European Integration;

Ivan Shestakov, Director of Strategic Development of MEGOGO;

Oleksiy Ziborov, advisor on police activities and training of the Canadian-Ukrainian Police Development Project;

Sergey Panteleev, Head of the Department of Migration Police of the National Police of Ukraine.

Venue: UKMC press center, ul. Khreshchatyk, 2.

Date: July 29, beginning at 14:30
