The attackers stole the terminals, which later disassembled and removed the cassettes with cash from them. Currently, as part of the pre-trial investigation, investigators are collecting an evidence base to hold them accountable for committing similar crimes in the capital. They face up to eight years in prison.

Within the framework of the implementation of the materials of the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 of Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the police officers of the Solomian Police Department together with the employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Capital Chapter and under the procedural guidance of the Solomiansk District Prosecutor's Office established two men who “specialized” in theft of payment terminals.

According to the chief of police of Kyiv Andriy Kryshchenko, the attackers carried out thefts for several months in different areas of the capital. They stole terminals, which were later taken outside the city, disassembled and removed cassettes with cash from them:

“With the strong support of the police regiment of the special purpose police No. 1, we detained the defendants immediately after committing the crime on Perov Boulevard in the Dnieper district of the capital, where by blowing up an ATM they tried to seize the sins of a 44-year-old resident of the capital and a 40-year-old resident of Kyiv We detained them in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and also found out that they were already criminally liable for theft.”

Law enforcement officers conducted urgent searches of the places of residence of detainees and in their cars. During the investigation, the police discovered a device for turning off GPS navigation signals, parts of bank terminals, license plates, knives, money and personal belongings of offenders. The physical evidence was seized and sent to the relevant expert studies.

“At present, the detainees have been informed of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Article 15, part four of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This is an attempt at theft, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure for them is resolved. We also have every reason to believe that the attackers are involved in a number of thefts committed on the territory of the capital, the proof of which is being dealt with by the investigation,” added the head of the capital's head.
