Dr. Michael Carpenter, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense with responsibility for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia, announced this today during a meeting with Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sergiy Yarovyi.

According to Dr. Carpenter, these funds will be intended to purchase equipment and reform the management system.

This meeting, devoted  to discussion of the bilateral defense cooperation, was also attended by the National Guard Commander-in-chief Yuriy Allerov and the Head of the State Border Guard Service Vladimir Nazarenko.

"I would like to thank the United States for supporting Ukraine in this difficult for our country time. We appreciate the efforts of our partners, particularly in political and diplomatic areas. American support in the defense sphere is very important for us. American leadership remains a very important factor in reforming the law enforcement system" - said Sergiy Yarovyi.

In turn, Michael Carpenter noted: "We are proud of the efforts aimed at the development of the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service. Our program of assistance to Ukraine was launched just to help the National Guard. It was a pilot project. And it was a clear success. Thus, when we decided to allocate funds for security issues in Ukraine in 2016, these assistance projects had to be continued. We are well aware that you have the complex problems in Donbass. To solve these problems you will have to work efficiently and involve many government agencies" - said Dr. Carpenter, - We shall continue to support Ukraine and are ready to cooperate with the new Government".

At the conclusion of the meeting, Ukrainian side thanked American colleagues for their constant support of reforms in the defense sector.
