On May 12, 2016, in Sumy 251 new patrolmen swore allegiance to the Ukrainian people.  On the same evening 25 patrol crews went to their first duty on the streets of the regional center.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, the Head of the National Police of Ukraine (NPU) Khatia Dekanoidze, officials of the Sumy regional Main Department of the National Police, representatives of other law enforcement agencies, as well as representatives of regional and local authorities.

It is a good sign that recruitment to the ranks of the Sumy patrol police began on November 7, 2015 - the day of birth of the National Police of Ukraine.  There were 4,100 applications to serve in the Sumy patrol police - 15 candidates for one vacancy.  251 patrolmen have completed an intensive training course, 194 of them have college level education.  In the new patrol will serve 70 women and 35 fighters who have participated in the ATO.

Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov expressed hope that the new patrolmen together with more experienced and honest police officers will constitute the core of the police force, who will enjoy confidence of the local population.

"At the heart of the police work lies the people's trust.  If there will be no trust  then we shall achieve nothing.  May be, the new patrolmen are not yet very skilled and experienced, probably, they will have to learn something, but it's your patrol police. They are working for you, they work for Ukraine" - addressed Arsen Avakov all present at the ceremony.

The minister informed that today 11,5 thousand policemen serve in the NPU Department of Patrol Police.

Andrian Gorbachev is appointed the head of the Sumy Patrol Police Department.

"This is a very tough and hard work, because we have a lot of obligations. However, when I look at these policemen, when I talk to them, then I forget about the difficulties.  Because they are the future of our country, the future of the National Police"- said the Head of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze.

She considers Sumy to be another victory of the reform, because it is the 24th city where patrol police started to work.

"I appeal to the skeptics.  Look at us, isn't it an important matter? It is very important.  I congratulate all of you.  After all, it is very important for the country" - stressed the head of NPU.

In the coming days a new patrol police will be launched in Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Severodonetsk, Krivoy Rog, Lisichansk and Mariupol.
