MIA of Ukraine and The National Police are strengthening cooperation with Interpol (PHOTO)
On April 7, 2016, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov and the Head of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze has met with members of the Evaluation Commission of the General Secretariat of Interpol - Deputy Director of the Bureau for the Coordination of European National Central Bureaus of Interpol Clemens Wechner and regional specialized officer of the Bureau Branislava Stojchevski.
The meeting took place during the visit to Ukraine of the Evaluation Comission of the General Secretariat of Interpol and dealt with the interaction between the Interpol and the National Police.
The visit of the Evaluation Comission is a standard procedure that is conducted periodically by the General Secretariat of Interpol to check observance of the official standards by the National Central Bureaus of Interpol. The visit envisages elaboration of recommendations on the improvement of international law enforcement cooperation and on the work of National Central Bureau of Interpol.
During its stay in Ukraine the Evaluation Comission has checked performance of the office of the Ukrainian National Central Bureau of Interpol and its interaction with law enforcement authorities.
Commission got acquainted with the work of checkpoints on the state border at the airport "Borispol". During its visit to airport the Interpol's database gave alert signal to one of the passengers of the Istanbul-Kiev flight. This citizen of Turkey, born in 1968, was wanted by the Austrian police from 2014 for hard drugs distribution. Thus all present including the representative of Austrian Interporl witnessed pattern of actions of the Ukrainian border guards and the procedure of the offender delivery to the National Police officers.
The members of the mission also visited the vehicle checkpoint "New Yarylovychi" in Chernigov region, where the Interpol's search database is used as well. 39 checkpoints in Ukraine are already equipped with such alert systems and 118 more will be equipped soon.
The Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov stated that in accordance with its advance towards a visa-free regime with EU Ukraine has made a conscious choice to join the international system of the criminal tracking by the joint information databases of Europol and Interpol, refusing to use the similar tools of the law enforcement bodies of CIS countries.
