On April 7, 2016, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov and the Head of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze has  met with members of the Evaluation Commission of the General Secretariat of Interpol - Deputy Director of the Bureau for the Coordination of European National Central Bureaus of Interpol Clemens Wechner and regional specialized officer of the Bureau Branislava Stojchevski.

The meeting took place during  the visit to Ukraine of the Evaluation Comission of the General Secretariat of Interpol and dealt with  the interaction between the Interpol and the National Police.

The visit of the Evaluation Comission is a standard procedure that is conducted periodically by the General Secretariat of Interpol to check observance of  the official standards by the National Central Bureaus of Interpol. The visit envisages elaboration of recommendations on the improvement of international law enforcement cooperation and on the work of National Central Bureau of Interpol.

During its stay in Ukraine the Evaluation Comission has checked  performance of the office of the Ukrainian National Central Bureau of Interpol and its interaction with law enforcement authorities.

Commission got acquainted with the work of checkpoints on the state border at the airport "Borispol". During its visit to airport the Interpol's database gave alert signal to one of the passengers of the Istanbul-Kiev flight.  This citizen of Turkey, born in 1968, was wanted by the Austrian police from 2014 for hard drugs distribution.  Thus all present including the representative of Austrian Interporl  witnessed pattern  of actions of the Ukrainian border guards and the procedure  of the offender delivery to the National Police officers.

The members of the mission also visited the vehicle  checkpoint "New Yarylovychi" in Chernigov region, where the Interpol's search  database is used as well.  39 checkpoints in Ukraine  are already equipped with such alert systems and  118 more will be equipped soon.

The Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov stated that  in accordance with its advance  towards a visa-free regime with EU Ukraine has  made a conscious choice  to join the international system  of the criminal tracking by the joint information databases of Europol and Interpol, refusing to  use the  similar tools  of the law enforcement bodies of CIS countries.

To remind:  earlier Arsen Avakov reported  that brothers Andrey and Sergey Klyuev and Eduard Stavitskiy  are now internationally wanted  by Interpol.
