On May 19 in the city of Krivoy Rog (Dnepropetrovsk region) 474 new patrol policemen swore allegiance to the Ukrainian people. The same evening 70 patrol crews went to patrol the city streets.

The ceremony of taking oath was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, the Head of the National Police of Ukraine Khatia Dekanoidze and representatives of regional and local authorities.

Arsen Avakov stressed that the new police meant, first and foremost, a new approach and new principles of work

"I want every resident of Krivoy Rog to feel it.  I urge you, the new police officers, to serve every citizen, and all the residents of this city - to trust the new police, because without your trust and support we cannot build anything.  I want to tell the new policemen:  do not fail us, because today you are bearing too much responsibility" - said Arsen Avakov.

Half a year ago about 6 thousand people have applied to serve in the new patrol police of Krivoy Rog.  The competition was 13 candidates per one vacancy.  The average age of the new Krivoy Rog policemen is 27 years.  One fifth of the whole police staff constitutes women. 336 new policemen have college level education; almost 10% of new patrolmen are former militia officers who have successfully passed the selection process and training.   Police Lieutenant Vladislav Tkachenko was appointed the head of the Krivoy Rog Patrol Police Department.  He served in the Kiev patrol police since its inception.

During 2.5 months the future patrolmen have mastered tactical and fire skills, received emergency medical training and studied the legal basis of police work.

The Head of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze urged residents of the city and Ukrainian society to support the new law enforcers.  She expressed the hope that the residents of Krivoy Rog, the local community and journalists will closely monitor the work of the new police, but at the same time understanding that these policemen are Ukraine's future and the future of the National Police.

"The most important thing - and patrolmen know and understand it - is that they will protect you and act within the law.  They are completely new.  Perhaps, without experience and with some mistakes but most importantly - they will be a part of the people of Ukraine" - emphasized Khatia Dekanoidze.

Arsen Avakov also noted that Krivoy Rog is a special city, because it has paid a very high price for the freedom of Ukraine.  40 new policemen participated in the fighting in the ATO zone.  Most of them spent more than a year fighting on the front line and they received state and departmental awards.

During the ceremony of taking the oath, the Minister of Internal Affairs has presented a valuable gift to one of these fighters who is now a patrol officer - Andrey Karpets. Patrol police inspector Andrey Karpets in 2014 served in the east of Ukraine in the special purpose regiment of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.  Under his belt are dozens of clashes and sabotage and reconnaissance missions for which he was marked by high state awards: the Order "For courage", 3rd degree, the badge "For military valor", a memorable sign "For defence of Kramatorsk airfield", breast badge of the ATO participant.  On behalf of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov presented him with military field glass as a symbol of vigilance and sharpness of sight of the patrol policeman.

In addition, Arsen Avakov and Khatia Dekanoidze visited the Patrol Police Department of the city of Krivoy Rog.  There they met with the police staff and inspected the premises, where the new policemen would serve.

Krivoy Rog is the largest city of Ukraine, which is not a regional center.  It is populated by 700 thousand residents.  In the near future the patrol police will start to work in a conglomerate Lysychansk-Rubizhne-Severodonetsk and in a city of Mariupol.
