"As a result of a year of hard work we have raised the level of trust to the police by 50%. Only the church, the Armed Forces and our National Guard are ahead of us in public opinion. In my understanding, we have not done a lot.  According to my personal feelings, we have changed at most 7 -10 percent of the existing law enforcement  system.  However, we see the reaction of people: they really want changes, they believe us", - said the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during a meeting with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner R. Gil   Kerlikowske.  The Minister unveiled the results of a public opinion poll conducted by the "Democratic Initiative" Foundation and the Razumkov Center.

Arsen Avakov marked that a major program of reforms is underway now in the Ministry of Internal Affairs with US assistance. Most urgent parts of this program are reforms of the police system as a cornerstone of society, of the State Border Guard Service and security system.

"Our partners in these reforms are the United States, EU, Canada, Japan and most recently Turkey.  And we have really managed to achieve something already"- said Arsen Avakov.

The Minister stressed that now over 20 joint programs are being implemented, including special training program  for "KORD" staff, program to support development of the light infantry brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, as well as a program of reforming the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
