5 thousand US dollars for evading punishment — the police of the Nikolaev region detained a man for trying to bribe a law enforcement officer
For closing criminal proceedings, returning the seized car and not hindering criminal activity, the man offered a monetary reward to the police officer. He was detained by internal security agents of the National Police together with police officers of the Nikolaev area.
The Nikolaev department of the Department of Internal Security of the NPU received a report from the head of the Pervomaisky district police department of the Nikolaev area, in which he reported on the attempted bribery.
It was established that a 42-year-old resident of the Pervomaisky district approached the police lieutenant colonel with a proposal to provide a bribe — 5,000 US dollars. The “vindictive” man promised the policeman in exchange for the closure of the criminal proceedings to two of his accomplices, started under Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, return of seized vehicles and non-interference with criminal activity.
According to the materials of internal security of the NPU, the investigators of the GUNP in the Nikolaev area entered information into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Part 3 of Art. 369 (Offer, promise or provision of unlawful benefits to an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
During the transfer of the promised amount, 42-year-old man was detained by UDVB employees of the NPU, investigators of the Nikolaev police, with the physical support of the fighters of the special unit KORD, under the procedural guidance of the Nikolaev regional prosecutor's office.
The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. For the bribing of an official, the defendant is preparing a statement of suspicion. If proven guilty, he faces imprisonment for a term of four to eight years.
