255 MPs of Ukraine supported the criminalization of smuggling
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the first reading voted for the draft law No. 5420 on the criminalization of smuggling. Yesterday, July 13, 255 parliamentarians voted for the presidential bill.
Recall, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine supports this initiative. The adoption of legislative changes on the criminalization of smuggling of goods, especially the excise group, is an urgent and necessary measure, taking into account the scale of this type of illegal activity.
Thus, only since the beginning of 2021, units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have detained in 317 cases almost 10 million packs of cigarettes worth hundreds of millions of hryvnias.
In addition, if commodity smuggling is criminalized, border guards will have the opportunity to conduct pre-trial investigations within the framework of criminal proceedings on behalf of the procedural head. And this will help to identify and detain not only the executors, but also the organizers and other functionaries of criminal schemes.
