10 kilometers of nets, 17 boats, fish shop: Kiev police exposed a criminal group that established underground fishing of industrial scale
Law enforcement officers have exposed 13 defendants of a criminal group that has been poaching fishing for 10 years. Worked in water areas where fishing on an industrial scale is prohibited. The monthly revenue of the group amounted to more than half a million hryvnias.
The criminal activities of the men were documented by the employees of the Department for the Protection of Public and State Interests of the Civil Service of Ukraine in the Kiev region together with the employees of the Investigative Department and Criminal Investigation Department, with the involvement of special officers and specialists of the environmental inspection of the capital district under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The group operated in Vyshhorod district of Kyiv region, in the villages of Sukholuchya and Strakholissya. The attackers set up disguised bases for catching and sorting fish, had special underground refrigeration chambers where they stored the catch before being sent for sale to the capital. Every day, men caught from 300 kg to a ton of fish.
The organizers of the group are two brothers, 39 and 48 years old, who live in the Vyshhorod district. They set up large-scale fishing - they bought fishing tools, boats, chose places for fishing. It is worth noting that men carried out their criminal activities during spawning, during the period when fishing is prohibited.
It was established that the men were involved with the help of a fish inspector, who warned the intruders in advance about the planned inspections of law enforcement officers.
Police conducted 18 sanctioned searches and seized a number of physical evidence, including boats, a car used by intruders, “black” accounting for the sale of fish.
The organizers of fishing were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. According to this fact, criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a fine of three thousand to five thousand non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens or restriction of liberty for a period of up to three years, or imprisonment for the same period.
