10 facts about the participation of the National Guard in the ATO/PLO
On April 30, 2018, the operation of the Joint Forces began to repel and deter Russia's armed aggression in eastern Ukraine.
1. From the first days of the ATO, units of the National Guard of Ukraine together with volunteers have been in defense of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
2. In 2014, units of the National Guard kept the situation in Donbas under control and allowed units of the Armed Forces to mobilize.
3. In 2014-2015, units of the NGU performed combat missions along the entire line of contact in the fight against pro-Russian illegal armed formations. In particular, the guards participated in the liquidation of checkpoints of illegal armed formations, ensured control of territories in which ATO forces deployed, organized blockades of NZF dislocations, prevented the spread of NSF activities to other territories, conducted reconnaissance and search activities, search for places of installation Fugitives, shells with ammunition. The units of the National Guard, together with the units of the Armed Forces, provided the support of columns of ATO forces on the routes of communication, conducting raids and assault actions as part of assault groups together with units of the Armed Forces, Security Service, State Border Service of Ukraine.
4th. The National Guards liberated Slovyansk, Popasna, Severodonetsk, Lysychansk and other cities and settlements from pro-Russian militants and mercenaries. Participated in battles for Ilovaisk and Debaltseve, defended Mariupol and stormed Shyrokino.
5. Since the end of 2015, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have replaced units of the National Guard on the 1st line of defense in the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation. After the redistribution of the zones of responsibility between the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the personnel of the NGU is involved in the implementation of combat tasks from isolation and containment measures at checkpoints and maintenance of platoon strongholds on the second and third defensive lines, protection and defense of base camps, places of deployment, objects critical infrastructure in the area of ATO.
6. Since April 30, 2018, after changing the format of the ATO, the units of the NGU participate in the operation of the Joint Forces. National guards serve at stationary and mobile checkpoints, guard platoon strongholds, important state facilities, protect public order, judicial authorities, carry out convoys of special contingents, cover the state border at the border with the Russian Federation, carry out countersabotage combat, the battalion tactical groups of the NGU participate in defensive actions on the line of contact.
7. Since the beginning of 2021, National Guard units as part of the Joint Forces have checked more than 444,623 vehicles and 585,163 people at mobile and stationary checkpoints. At the same time, 2,629 people were detained, of them on suspicion of committing crimes stipulated by the Criminal Code of Ukraine - 279 (on suspicion of participation in the activities of illegal armed groups - 43). The guards seized 29 units of ammunition, 2 units of weapons, 184 grams of narcotic substances and 4 vehicles.
8. Since 2014, more than 40,000 servicemen have received the status of combatants in the National Guard.
9. During the entire period of service and combat tasks in the ATO in eastern Ukraine, 230 guards were killed, more than 900 soldiers were wounded and injured. The missing are 13 servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine.
10. Since 2014, five servicemen of the NGU: Major General Serhiy Kulchytsky, Lieutenant Bohdan Zavada, Soldier Yevhenii Telnov, Colonel Andriy Sokolenko and Sergeant Serhiy Mykhalchuk have been awarded the highest award — the title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumous exactly).
