“Gathered the bag and went to the part,” - guard Nazar
He had 6 years of contract service behind him, but decided to return to civilian life in 2017. February 24, 2022 changed the life of a National Guardsman. Nazar hails from Lviv region, but for the past six months away from home and again with a gun in his hands.
“At five in the morning my nephew called me and said, 'Turn on the TV and watch the news. ' Of course, it was a shock. I was a reservist in one of the National Guard units, so I quickly took the necessary things and was already in the part by ten in the morning. Then the combat coordination in the Lviv region, after which we were sent to Sumy region.”
Sumy region was recovering after its liberation from the Russian invasion. Stabilization measures continued, defensive lines were strengthened. At the same time, our fighters took part in hostilities in Luhansk and Donetsk region.
“We had to help strengthen the defense line in Rubezhnoe. However, the city was under occupation, and we took up the defense in Novodruzhsk. We had a good position — in fact we were under the cover of the river. But the work of enemy mortars was a daily occurrence. I remember one day the continuous shelling lasted about three hours.”
In more than three months, the fighters changed several positions and settlements. Then the front line was changing very dynamically. From day one to the present day, the enemy has been waging a dirty and brutal war.
“The scorched earth, destroyed absolutely all objects and buildings — this was the tactics of the occupiers. This is how they worked — the infantry did not enter any settlement until it was made a complete ruin by tanks and artillery. Phosphorus shells are also a familiar phenomenon for them. These are not exactly healthy people, to put it mildly. For them, to destroy and bring grief to people is the highest pleasure.”
The guard is convinced that the occupiers are doomed to defeat, because the Ukrainian people are fighting for their land.
“In one of the villages where we held the defense, there lived one woman. Almost all the people left, and she stayed because she did not want to leave her home. She was a good woman, always consulted in the garden despite constant shelling. And one day, the invaders hit her house directly and killed her. So every day I want to take revenge on these invaders — for this woman, for thousands of innocently murdered Ukrainians. And we do that and we will continue to do so. We have a goal and we see it clearly, and the victory will be ours.”
