The lands of the Chernobyl reserve along the state border will be transferred to the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine for defense
The total need for land drainage along the state border of Ukraine is more than 23 thousand hectares. Of these, more than 2 thousand are lands of the nature reserve fund as part of 42 reserves of state and local importance.
In February 2023, amendments were made to the Land Code of Ukraine. Since then, the lands of the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund along the state border line in the border zone are withdrawn from the nature reserve fund and transferred to the military units of the State Fiscal Service. In the future, border guards will carry out the construction, arrangement and maintenance of engineering and technical and fortification structures, fences, border signs, border crossings, communications.
The Administration of the State Border Guard Service and the State Ecological Academy of Postgraduate Education and Management signed a “Memorandum of Cooperation” to obtain cartographic materials of the passage and location of reserves, information about the size, information about the owners and users of natural resources.
One of the results of cooperation is the prepared draft Decree of the President of Ukraine on changing the boundaries of the territory of the Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve. Currently, the document is being approved in the central executive bodies.
Article 77 “Land of Defense” of the Land Code of Ukraine stipulates that in order to ensure national security and defense, compliance with the state border regime, military units of the State Border Service of Ukraine for the construction, arrangement and maintenance of engineering and technical and fortification structures, fences, border signs, border signs Prosik, communications are provided for permanent use by land plots 30-50 meters wide along the state border line on land, along the shore of the Ukrainian part of the border river, lake or other body of water. And along the line of the state border of Ukraine with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus - up to 2 kilometers wide.
