Weapons from the combat zone do not fall into the hands of criminals on the territory of the European Union thanks to the close cooperation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with the European Commission. This was stated by European Commissioner Ilva Johansson in Brussels during a press conference following the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the EU on Justice and Home Affairs, Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“They are working very closely with us to protect us, so that weapons that are now in Ukraine do not fall into the hands of Ukrainians into the EU. This police cooperation is excellent and its result is excellent. Ukrainians have registered all small arms, and we do not see anything, not a single firearm falling into the hands of criminal groups from Ukraine,” the European Commissioner said.

In addition, Ilva Johansson thanked the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko and his team for their dedication and high level of cooperation. She also stressed that cooperation in this area should definitely be continued, because the situation requires the parties to remain vigilant.

“I think it's really unprecedented - what the Ukrainians are doing. How they fight to defend their sovereignty, freedom and country. And also to protect all of us, our shared values. They are so strong, they are so dedicated, and certainly they make a sacrifice that we cannot match. But we must ensure that we will stand with Ukraine and Ukrainians for as long as necessary,” Johansson stressed.

According to her, the decision of the European Council in the EU budget for 2024-2027 created the Ukrainian Fund in the amount of 50 billion euros.

The first formal meeting of the Council of Ministers of the EU on Justice and Home Affairs took place in Brussels on the eve of this year. In teleconference mode, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko took part in the meeting.
