Deputy Minister Mary Akopian met with Member of Parliament of the Kingdom of Sweden
Deputy Minister Mary Akopian met with Member of Parliament of the Kingdom of Sweden, member of the Riksdag Committee on Foreign Policy Anders Osterberg and well-known Swedish journalist and writer Donald Buström, who arrived in Ukraine with the intention of visiting war crime scenes, committed by the Russian occupation army, to collect the stories of witnesses and opinions of representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, public and artistic circles.
It should be noted that the Swedish police have already begun an investigation into the facts of war crimes and genocide in Ukraine.
Mary Akopian spoke in detail about the role and tasks of the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in countering armed aggression, eliminating the consequences of barbaric destruction, investigating crimes, rescuing, housing and ensuring the safety of citizens — both internally displaced persons and those outside the state.
Separately, there was an urgent problem of demining large areas of territory previously occupied by the enemy, including residential premises and infrastructure facilities. There is an urgent need to attract international assistance, in particular, specialized equipment, as well as professional pyrotechnic teams that could strengthen the capabilities of the units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
A. Ostreberg noted that Sweden has significant experience and good mining specialists, adding that it will initiate consideration of sending the necessary assistance to Ukraine as soon as possible.
According to Mary Akopian, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has already sent a letter to the Swedish side on the prompt provision of possible assistance in humanitarian demining operations of the liberated territories, in particular, by colleagues from the Center for Mine and Disarmament Operations (SWEDEC) of the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Sweden.
